01
Who we are
In short: This policy explains what personal information Motivation Stock collects, why, and what you can do about it.
Motivation Stock is based in Gujarat, India. We are responsible for the personal information described here. You can contact us about privacy at motivationstock@gmail.com or through our contact page.
02
Using the site without an account
In short: You can read everything without telling us who you are.
You don’t need an account to read quotes, books, talks or stories, or to try the 7-day challenge. We don’t use advertising trackers. If you allow it in the cookie choices, we use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read (see Cookies below).
Like every website, our server receives basic technical information when you visit, such as your internet address and browser type, so it can send you the page.
03
What stays in your own browser
In short: Some features remember things on your device only. We never receive this information.
A few features save information in your browser’s local storage: your progress and notes on the 7-day challenge (when you’re not signed in), which key ideas of a book you’ve marked as read, your recent searches, your contact form draft, and whether you’ve already signed up for the Sunday email. You can clear all of this at any time by clearing your browser’s site data for Motivation Stock.
04
Your account
In short: An account is optional. We keep only what it needs, and you can delete it yourself.
If you create a free account, we store:
your name and email address;
your password, scrambled so that nobody can read it, not even us;
whether you’d like the Sunday email;
the quotes, books, talks and stories you save as favourites;
your 7-day challenge progress and any notes you write;
a record of each sign-in: when it ends, the internet address and the browser it came from.
We use this only to run your account, keep you signed in and protect your account from misuse. We send you emails needed for your account, such as the link to confirm your email address or to reset your password.
Our team can see your name, email address and newsletter choice, and how many favourites and challenge days you have, so we can look after accounts.
05
The habit tracker
In short: Your habits are yours. Our team can see how they’re going, but never what you write about them.
If you use the habit tracker, we store the habits you create (name, category, schedule, and any description, notes and reason you add), your daily check-ins and any notes on them, your goals, your weekly review answers, habit templates you save, and your reminder settings.
Our team can see each member’s habit names and progress, such as how many days were completed, so we can understand how the tracker is used. We can’t see your habit descriptions, notes or reasons, your check-in notes, or your weekly review answers.
You can download all your habit data from your settings at any time. Deleting a habit deletes its history, and deleting your account deletes everything.
06
Reminders
In short: Reminders are off unless you turn them on.
If you turn on a reminder, we send it by email or as a browser notification. For browser notifications, your browser gives us a delivery address from its push service, which is run by your browser’s maker (for example Google, Mozilla or Apple). We keep it until you turn notifications off, it stops working, or you delete your account.
07
Messages you send us
In short: If you write to us, we use your details to reply.
When you use the contact form or email us, we receive your name, email address and message, plus anything else you choose to include (for example a quote or a book suggestion). We use it to read and reply to your message and, if you send us something to share, as described in our terms.
08
The Sunday email
In short: If you sign up, we use your email address to send you one email a week.
If you sign up for the newsletter, we store your email address and where you signed up on the site, and use them only to send you the Sunday email. Every email has a link to unsubscribe.
09
Cookies
In short: We use a few cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your cookie choices. Anything optional, like Google Analytics, only runs if you allow it.
When you sign in, we set two cookies: one that keeps you signed in (it holds a secure sign-in code your browser can’t read with scripts) and one that simply tells the page you are signed in. Both are removed when you sign out and expire after 30 days. We also set one cookie that remembers your cookie choices for 6 months.
If you allow analytics, Google Analytics sets its own cookies to count visits and which pages are read. We see totals, not who you are. Google receives your internet address and browser details and handles this data under its own privacy policy. You can change your choice any time from “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page. Every cookie we use is listed on our cookies page.
10
Videos, images and other services
In short: Some pictures and videos come from other websites, which can see that your browser asked for them.
YouTube: talk thumbnails load from YouTube, and when you play a talk the video is embedded from YouTube, which may set its own cookies.
Open Library: book covers load from Open Library.
Wikimedia Commons and Unsplash: some author and story photos load from their servers.
When your browser loads something from these services, they receive your internet address and browser details, under their own privacy policies. Our fonts are stored on our own server, so loading a page doesn’t contact Google unless you allow analytics.
11
How long we keep information
In short: Only as long as we need it.
Your account information is kept until you delete your account.
Sign-in records end after 30 days, or when you sign out.
Email confirmation links stop working after 48 hours and password reset links after 1 hour.
13
Your choices and rights
In short: You can see, change or delete your information.
You can change your name and newsletter choice, and delete your account and everything saved in it, at any time from your account page. To ask for a copy of your information, or for help with anything else, contact us.
14
Children
In short: Accounts are for adults.
Motivation Stock is written for a general audience. If you think a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we’ll delete it.
15
Changes to this policy
In short: We’ll update the date at the top when this changes.
We may update this policy when the website changes, for example when the Sunday email is connected. When we do, we’ll change the “last updated” date at the top of this page.
